Cheorwon Borderline Peace School to Recruit New Students

Cheorwon Borderline Peace School, established to raise up peacemakers on the Korean Peninsula, is recruiting new students for the year 2014 (its second batch), according to its announcement on January 13th. The school’s 3-year program takes place mostly at Peace Cultural Plaza, located inside the DMZ in Cheorwon, Gangweon Province.

Courses include: Peace Studies, English, Conflict Resolution, Peace & Health Science, Organic Agriculture, Peace & Spiritual Practice, Peace Pilgrimage, Human Rights & Peace Theories, International Peace and Political Science, and Emergency Relief. This year’s special lecturers include distinguished Prof. Toh Swee-Hin of the University for Peace (April), Prof. Johnston McMaster of the Irish School of Ecumenics (May), and Anthropology Prof. Eleana Kim of the University of Rochester (July).

The Peace School announced that it will select “persons who wish to devote themselves to the peace movement for South and North Korea,” “persons who wish to work as peace educators and relief activists,” and “persons who like spiritual practice, organic farming, or building houses.”

Applications are due on January 29. The school will select 10 students through submitted documents and interviews. Students in regular programs will live in the dormitory. There are no limits on age or on previous education to apply.
