2014-09-17 10:20
On September 15, the Korean Methodist Church (KMC) opened a mission conference at Central Park Hotel in Manila, the Philippines, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of KMC mission in the Philippines.

The 100 some participants in the conference included missionaries working in the Philippines and representatives of mission organizations. The conference will continue for 2 nights and 3 days, till the 17th, and Jeon Yong-jae, president of the Methodist Council of Bishops, will attend from the 16th. The participants will reflect on the history of KMC mission in the Philippines, and take part in forums and other processes considering how to prepare for the next 40 years. KMC’s Philippines mission began in September 1974 when Rev. Han Sang-hyu started the first Korean church in Manila. The denomination noted, “As a base for KMC world mission, the Philippines has contributed greatly to our overseas mission…Through the conference we will re-illuminate our Philippines mission strategies.”

Currently, in addition to their regular mission work, missionaries dispatched to the Philippines are carrying out diverse activities including educational programs for Kopinos (2nd-generation Philippine children with one Korean parent). KMC plans to hold an additional forum related to its Philippines mission this November, in the Philippines. Later on, it will publish a collection of materials on its Philippines mission history.
