The Presbyterian Church in Korea - Baekseok opened its 37th General Assembly on September 22 at Baekseok University in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, and approved Rev. Jang Jong-hyeon, the current moderator, to continue his position for another year. The Baekseok GA also passed unanimously the proposal to formally unite with PCK Daeshin (Moderator: Rev. Jeon Gwang-hun). Last week, PCK Daeshin confirmed its stance for unity with PCK Baekseok. The GA will discuss amendment of the denomination’s election regulations, for revision of several articles that discriminate against women pastors. The Baekseok Committee on Islam raised the issue of human rights violations by Islamic armed groups, and submitted a proposal to the denomination for the filing of a suit with the UN. The GA will continue until the 25th, with the participation of 1,089 representatives from 5,276 churches in 94 presbyteries, under the theme “God’s People Together in Unity (Psalm 133:1∼2).”
