International relief and development NGO Good People (Board Chair: Rev. Lee Young-hoon) held a Good People Day on October 15 at Yoido Full Gospel Church to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

The event, held as a part of the church’s regular Wednesday service, began with a video presentation showing Good People’s projects in and outside Korea for the past 15 years. The implementation of current projects was shown, also through a video presentation: school and hospital construction in countries with developing economies such as Vietnam and Myanmar, and caring services for the homeless and elderly in Korea, for North Korean defectors, and for Sewol ferry tragedy victims.

Good People president Kim Dong-myeong said, “Good People promises to be always by the side of the marginalized in and outside Korea, even for 15 or 30 more years… We’re very grateful for all our supporters, who have sent their constant interest and love."

In his sermon, titled “Joy From Serving Others,” Rev. Lee Young-hoon emphasized the importance of sharing. He said, “Believers are to rejoice in salvation, freely given by God, as well as in serving our neighbors… Let us live our lives rejoicing in service, just like Jesus, who served the poor and the sick with love.” He added, “Please continue supporting Good People so that it can continue carrying out its noble calling, just as it has been delivering hope for the past 15 years to those who are suffering throughout this world.”

At this event, Good People presented plaques of gratitude to company and individual supporters: Fashion Group Hyungji, which donated clothing worth 4 billion won for emergency relief to the Philippines last year, Fastoso, FRL Korea, Teazen, Ms. Seong Yu-gyeong for her support of 32 children overseas since 2008, and internal medicine doctor Seong Yeong-ja for carrying out medical services in the Good People Doctors Society.

On this day there was also a photo exhibition in the church’s front yard showing Good People’s various projects including a sponsorship program linking up with children in poverty, medical services, and Freedom Citizens University for former North Koreans.
