Sarang Community Church Aims for Second Revival

2014-10-28 13:14

On October 26, Sarang Community Church (Rev. Oh Jung Hyun) announced that from October 20 to 25 it had held its 12th special early morning prayer gathering at the church, located on Banpodaero in Seocho-gu, Seoul, with a total 75,000 believers participating. The theme this time was “Let me be used through the power of the Cross.” Speakers included Rev. Oh Jung Hyun, Rev. Kim Jin-hong of Doorae Church, Rev. Baek Dong-jo of Mokpo Sarang Church, Rev. Kim Yo-seb of Suwon Woncheon Baptist Church, and Prof. Park Yong-gyu of Chongshin University. This six-day special early morning prayer gathering was the second one held since the church constructed its new building.

Every morning at 4:30 a.m. more than 12,000 believers filled the main chapel (6,700 seats), Grace Chapel, Promise Chapel, and Abraham Hall. Those who could not find seats sat on stairs, in the corridor, and even on the stage.

In his sermons on the first and last days, Rev. Oh said, “In this confusing and painful world, Christians need to direct the center of their hearts towards God, just as Joseph, Moses, David and Paul loved the anointing Holy Spirit and were used by the Lord… Let us be aware of history, remind ourselves of our mission, and be main characters and spiritual ‘professionals’ who live for God’s glory.”

Participant Ms. Lee Ja-hye said, “Just one year ago, I criticized churches that left their lights on, for wasting electricity. But now I feel God’s grace through attending the prayer gatherings.” Gary Hoag, Vice President of Advancement at Denver Seminary, said, “They say the Korean church is facing a crisis. But as long as there are believers who come to special early morning prayers and pray passionately, the future of the Korean church is optimistic.” A person related to Sarang Church said, “Throughout the whole period, we had no empty seats, and the believers were more enthusiastic than at any previous special early morning prayer gathering. Hundreds of believers are posting their comments on our web bulletin board.” Video clips from the prayer gatherings are available on Sarang Community Church’s website at sarang.org.
