2014-12-18 17:44

Since December 1, the Salvation Army Korea is carrying out its Red Kettle (Christmas Kettle) campaign at 360 spots nationwide. On the 16th, at the Red Kettle Headquarters, located on the 6th floor of the Salvation Army building on Shinmun-no in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Head Officer Lee Eun-kyeong of Salvation Army’s Distribution Management Team shared some photos she had saved on her computer. They revealed the donors’ love for their marginalized neighbors.

① A letter by a “Shinwol-dong resident” who put a 100-million-won check in the Red Kettle in Myeong-dong, Seoul, on December 13.

② A donation made to the Red Kettle at Hyehwa subway station on December 15 by pre-schoolers who had earned the money by selling cookies.

③ An envelope containing 1 million won, put in the Red Kettle on December 14 at Yatap Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, by elderly members of Seomoon Church.

④ A necklace wrapped in A4-size paper and deposited in a Red Kettle at Jongno-3ga station, Seoul, on December 5.

The Red Kettle street campaign will continue until December 31, toward a fundraising target of 6.5 billion won -half a billion won more than last year’s. Secretary General Lee Su-geun of Salvation Army Korea said, “Up until today, we have raised about 2 billion won. The collection rate is about the same as in an average year.” He added, “The Red Kettle is a movement for the practice of love and sharing in this world… I hope all the churches in Korea will participate actively in the Red Kettle campaign.”
