Helping Koreans from China: Rev. Kim Hae-seong, Representative of Global Sarang Sharing

2015-01-27 17:20

Global Sarang (Love) Sharing, which supports Korean-Chinese and other immigrants to Korea, was established in 1992 by Rev. Kim Hae-seong (55, photo) as a full-fledged Christian mission welfare organization for migrant workers. This past January 14th, it opened a migrant women’s support center in Oryudong, Seoul, to help women migrants who are undergoing difficulties due to unwanted pregnancy, inability to look after their children, or other problems. Currently the organization operates six educational services including global village schools, three nursery facilities, four group homes, a seminary, a telephone-interpretation center, a migrants’ internet broadcast, and other welfare programs.

“Since the murder incidents by Oh Won-chun and Park Chun-bong, many Korean-Chinese including church members are appealing for help with difficult situations at their workplaces,” Rev. Kim said on the 21st. “Since that incident, for Korean-Chinese men in particular, the road to employment has narrowed.” Kim commented, “To the extent that Korean-Chinese and other migrant workers are absolutely needed for the future of Korean society, we must avoid such prejudice and discrimination…I will work hard to communicate the Gospel, so that they may become members of our society in the faith.” (To support, contact 02-863-6622.)
