Shinchon Holiness Church in Mapo-gu, Seoul (Rev. Lee Jeong-ik) decided to commemorate its 60th anniversary this year with a special event: the gathering of 1,800 members of the congregation to transcribe all 1,754 pages of the Bible. On the 15th of March, more than 400 church members sat down at long tables in the church’s “Acheon Hall” and “Manna Hall,” and commenced to copy by hand the pages they had been apportioned (one page per person). What initially was to have been a one-day event was changed to four sessions when the church could not find a place large enough to accommodate everyone at once. This day’s meeting was the second, following the first session on March 8.
In preparation for the event, the church held a meeting of the participating members last month and gave them their page assignments. A week before the event, each member also received a practice transcription set and was encouraged to try writing the page in advance at home.

The project will conclude on the 29th of this month with the binding of the transcribed Bible into a book that will be placed on exhibit in the church museum. In addition, the transcribed Bible will be printed and distributed to all church members as a memorial keepsake. Each page will bear the name and area of work of the one who transcribed it.
