World Vision Church Supports “Goat Bank” for African Self-reliance and Mission

2015-09-30 17:33

On the afternoon of September 20, the Global Nanum Network (Inc.) (president: lawyer Kang Ji-weon; representative: Rev. Bae Yeong-ju, on right in photo) held a “Concert of Hope for Establishment of Africa Goat Banks.” The event took place at World Vision Church (Rev. Shin Byeong-shik, left) in Songchon-dong, Daejeon. Since this past June, World Vision Church has carried out a “small collection box movement” raising 4.5 million won (enough to buy 90 goats), which it contributed to Global Nanum Network (photo).

“According to the words of Leviticus 19:9~10, which tells people not to pick up the grain that falls to the ground during reaping, but to leave it for the poor to gather, we have thrown ourselves enthusiastically into this project,” said Rev. Shin Byeong-shik. “During the past four months, thinking of our coins as that fallen grain, all the church members have collected small change from their families, workmates and others, making it possible to establish the World Vision Church Goat Bank in Tanzania, Africa.” The church members will form one-to-one relationships with the families who receive the goats, and will pray for and support them continuously.

One goat costs about 50,000 won in Africa. When the goat gives birth and its kid is sold, that brings enough income to educate two children for one year; and the milk from the goat is a helpful nutritional supplement. Therefore this is a very worthwhile project for Africa mission. The Global Nanum Network is setting up Goat Banks in Africa in the names of the supporting churches and organizations.
