Dr. David Bao-Shan Chu (Korean name: 주보선) passed away on September 29 (local time) at his home in Concord, North Carolina in the United States. He was 92. Dr. Chu came to Korea in 1967, when doctors of internal medicine were still few, and worked until 1988 at the Presbyterian Medical Center (Jesus Hospital) in Jeonju as a medical missionary specializing in heart disease, while sharing Jesus’ love. He was the last living foreign medical missionary related to Jesus Hospital, and he continued his prayers for Korea until he died.

His memorial service will be held on October 3 at Concord Presbyterian Church. Prof. Lee Gwang-yeong of Jesus Hospital, Director Kim Min-cheol of Design Hospital’s Cancer Center, one of Dr. Chu’s students, and others who remember him will participate in the service. Dr. Chu’s wife Gail Cooper has asked that gifts be made to the Missionary Outreach Program at Jesus Hospital in Jeonju.
