2016-02-04 17:23

On February 2∼3, YWCA held its 2016 General Assembly at Laon Convention Hotel in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon City, and elected 45th President Lee Myeong-hye (second from left), currently vice-president. 180 representatives of 52 domestic branches participated in the General Assembly.

After her inauguration, the new President Lee said, “I’m planning programs with our fellow YWCA members to stir up new winds for life… As president, I’ll devote myself to the promotion of YWCA growth together with all our national branches.” Lee has been an active YWCA member for nearly 40 years, since 1977.

For its continuing No Nuclear Yes Life movement, YWCA plans to carry out no-nuke education for youth and related campaigns for the general public. While monitoring local energy policies, the Y also will request the addition of no-nuke energy policies to the platforms of candidates running in the general and presidential elections.

In its gender equality movement, the Y will take stronger actions with regard to issues such as gender differences in pay, and conditions of women employed in irregular status, and will carry out periodic education for prevention of violence, protection of young girls’ rights, and gender sensitivity. The Y also plans to expand its activities for improvement of systems related to the hiring of caregivers and maid service, for example, through the forming of cooperatives.
