A “First” for Laos: Official Mission Accord With Gwangju NCC

2016-06-22 16:40

Along with China, Vietnam and North Korea, the country of Laos is one of the nations around the world where Christian evangelizing is totally prohibited. But now Laos has the prospect of receiving official mission support.

The Lao Evangelical Church (Rev. Khamphone Kounthapanya, president; seated far right in photo), Laos’s only Christian evangelical organization, and the Gwangju Council of Churches (Rev. Park Sang-gyu, moderator; on left) recently met in Vientiane, Laos. There, Gwangju NCC said it will give positive support to the LEC denomination’s ongoing “Pilot Project” promoting clergy self-reliance, and the two organizations agreed to hold a meeting of their related staff next month for practical follow-up discussions.

During the unofficial gathering on this day, Rev. Khamphone expressed gratitude to Gwangju NCC for its promise of cooperation with LEC. He said that nowadays the denomination’s main prayer concern is how to support pastors so they can conduct their ministries without difficulty in their daily lives. For this, he requested Korean churches’ cooperation toward the successful implementation of the Pilot Project.
