“The Salvation Army’s most important ministries are its works related to social welfare and the Saving Spirit, which we may call ‘bread and the Gospel.’ In order for the church to fulfill its original role as light and salt for the world, it must pay attention to local society and help those in the lowest places.”

Kim Pil-su (61), inaugurated this past June 5 as the 25th Territorial Commander of Salvation Army Korea, said in a recent interview with Kukmin Daily, “Now is the time when the Korean churches should comfort and ease the hurts of persons outside the church, working in all dimensions.” Commander Kim clarified that he will concentrate during his term on saving souls and living a life of holiness and purity as a religious officer, while prioritizing ministry to the next generation and specialized social welfare projects.

Commander Kim was first commissioned as an officer of the Salvation Army in 1985.
