Dr. Lee Uh-ryung (former Minister of Culture), speaking at a conference held by the organizing committee of 2016 Diakonia Korea at Sarang Community Church (Rev. Oh Jeong-hyeon), on the second day of Korean Christian Social Welfare Expo 2016, asserted that true welfare is the offering of eternal values to fulfill needs, not the mechanical distribution of material goods. The theme of the conference was “Evaluation of Korean churches’ service to society, and perspectives on the future of the Korean church.” Dr. Lee told the conference that the concept of welfare originated in the Bible.
