The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on February 15 that it has registered three items as cultural heritages: the First Marine Corps Headquarters Church (photo) in Seoul, a “Union Hymnal” in the collection of the Korean Christian Museum at Soongsil University, and the mosaic art behind the altar at the Seoul Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Korea (registered respectively as No. 674, No. 675, and No. 676). (See related article for details.)

The Cultural Heritage Administration also gave advance notice of its decision to register five additional items as cultural heritages: Dunyuldong Cathedral in Gunsan, North Jeolla-do; the Chang Nyeong-jo Family Gwanhaegong House in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla-do; Thomas Hall at Ewha Womans University; the laboratory (formerly 98th Army Hospital) at Daejeong Girls’ High School in Jeju; and Brady Hall of the Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju. Among these, Ewha University’s Thomas Hall is Korea’s oldest existing school athletic facility, is preserved in its original sound condition, and is recognized for its outstanding structural beauty. Thomas Hall has been used as the dance building since the Department of Dance was opened within the College of Physical Education in 1963.
