Myungsung Presbyterian Church Resolves to Merge with New Song Myungsung Church

2017-03-22 09:30

Myungsung Presbyterian Church (Senior pastor Kim Sam-hwan) in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, held a congregational meeting (photo) after its evening service on March 19, and resolved to merge with New Song Myungsung Church (Rev. Kim Ha-na) in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do.

With the participation of 8,104 members, the meeting dealt with two matters: whether to merge with New Song Church and whether to call commissioned pastor Rev. Kim Ha-na. Both items passed, with 5,860 agreeing, 2,128 disagreeing, and 116 abstaining on the merger item; and 6,003 agreeing, 1,964 disagreeing, and 137 abstaining on the issue of the call. Now that Myungsung Church has concluded all the necessary administrative steps for the merge, what remains is the administrative process on the New Song Church side.

New Song Myungsung Church will discuss the matter in short order at its congregational meeting. It is still a matter of controversy, as the merge is considered an expedient for the succession of the pastor’s son to Myungsung Church leadership. On March 19 during the Sunday worship service of New Song Myungsung Church, Rev. Kim Ha-na, the son, expressed a negative opinion about the merge and the call, as well as the opening of a congregational meeting.
