“It’s time to put our heads together on how to help other minority Christians”

“In the Trump era, amidst the waves of globalization, it’s time to put our heads together and think about what we can do, and how, to help other minorities who have lost their opportunities.”

David N. Hempton (65), Dean of the Harvard University Divinity School, suggested this as a practical task henceforth for evangelicals and other Christians, noting that “in last year’s U.S. presidential election, 80% of white evangelicals threw their votes to Trump.”

Dean Hempton, an orthodox evangelical theologian, was invited to Korea by the Harvard Divinity School Alumni Association of Korea. At their meeting on March 16, held at Westin Chosun Hotel in central Seoul, Hempton presented a special lecture on “Polarization, Politics and Religion in Trump-Era U.S.A.”

100 some persons took part in the special lecture event, which was organized to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Harvard Divinity School. Among them were Bishop Kim Seon-do (pastor emeritus of Seoul Kwanglim Church); Ahn Jae-woong, board chair of the National Council of YMCAs of Korea; former Ambassador of Korea to the U.S. Lee Tae-shik; former National Assembly member Park Jin; and other Harvard Divinity School alumni.

Hempton was appointed to his current position as Dean of Harvard Divinity School in July 2012.
