Lee Seong-hui, center) held a “Presbyterian Symposium Celebrating the 500th Year of Reformation,” on July 19 at Seungdong Church in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Prof. Park Yong-gyu of Chongshin University said in his presentation on “Tasks of the PCK Hapdong and Tonghap Denominations For the Korean Church,” “In these times, known as an ‘era of crisis for the church,’ I hope our two denominations will combine their strength to reclaim the history of the Holy Spirit and lead the churches to revival.” In particular, he proposed that “Our two denominations should cooperate to achieve the reunification of Korea, which is the urgent task facing all our people and churches…We should do our utmost toward the rebuilding of churches and the communicating of the Gospel in the North.” In addition, he suggested “measures to cope with heretical cults and homosexuality” and “sustained academic exchanges.”

In his discussion comments, Prof. Im Hui-guk of Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary said, “PCK Hapdong and Tonghap are ‘branches linked in partnership,’ with common roots in Pyongyang Presbyterian Theological Seminary…Through pulpit exchanges and other activities among our member churches, we should stay in continuous communication and achieve unity.”

PCK Hapdong Moderator Kim Seon-gyu said, “With this symposium as the starting point, I look forward to increased exchanges and cooperation between our two denominations, and to our combined efforts to accelerate the reform movement in society as a whole.”
