An 11-Hour Prayer Harmony: Mission Korea Holds One-Day Prayer Ensemble

On February 5, in the midst of another severe cold wave, Mission Korea, an interdenominational student mission organization, held the 2018 One-Day Prayer Ensemble (photo) at Nam Seoul Church in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

First held in 2012, this year the Prayer Ensemble held its 7th annual gathering. Anyone who wants to join in the prayers can apply online or offline and participate regardless of denomination or sect. It is, however, a “first come, first served” system. When 365 persons have applied, they gather at one place and pray all day, seeking to know God’s will. Just as various musical instruments join in harmony in an ensemble, the event is designed to build harmony between God and me, and between my neighbors and me, through prayer.

The prayers by the participants this day took many forms. There were those who prayed by themselves, and pairs who shared their lives and prayed for each other. There were also groups of four who shared information about their different communities and exchanged prayer items for spiritual change of their communities. The Ensemble participants started praying at 10 o’clock in the morning, and their prayers did not cease until 9 in the evening.

Missionary Lee Dae-haeng, standing chair of Mission Korea, said, “It is difficult to bring about spiritual awakening and global evangelization through just one person’s prayer. When those who believe in the descent of the Holy Spirit, as in the Pentecost event (Acts 2:1∼4), gather and seek to understand God’s will, revival and mission take place at the same time. For this, we plan to continue the Prayer Ensemble.”
