On July 5, the Seoul Thursday gathering of the Jubilee Prayer Meeting For Unification and National Salvation (Jubilee, co-representatives: Revs. Jeong Sung-jin and Eom Gi-yeong) held its 700th meeting (photo) at Sarang Community Church (Rev. Oh Jung-hyun) in Seocho-gu, Seoul. It has been 14 years since the group was launched in 2004 as a united interdenominational prayer movement for revival. Currently 62 reunification mission organizations are members of Jubilee, including the Society of Christian Unification Studies, Future Foundation of Korea, and Korea Food For the Hungry International.

Jubilee started out in March 2004 as a regular gathering of Christian youth and college students to pray for the nation and the people. In 2011, housed in Sarang Church, it joined with 31 reunification mission organizations and renamed itself Jubilee. Its slogan is “Evangelical reunification will be God’s gift when we gather and pray together.”

Jubilee has 14 regional gatherings in Korea including Seoul, and 16 regular overseas gatherings in cooperation with local Korean churches. Since 2012, Jubilee has organized the annual Jubilee Korea Big Prayer Gathering on Memorial Day (June 6), which has become one of the major reunification prayer meetings of the Korean church.

Rev. Oh Seung-hun, general secretary of Jubilee, commented, “At the time of every major event related to South and North, such as the death of Kim Jong-il, Jubilee has held urgent overnight prayers, emergency national salvation prayer gatherings, and reunification workshops with the Korean churches. Now that our prayer gathering has met 700 times, I think we’ve reached the eighth ridge of the mountain. With our accumulated energy, we’ll continue our prayers till we finally make it to the top.”
