Missionary Kim Gwang-su, Founder of 12 Churches in the Philippines, Passes Away

Missionary Kim Gwan-su, age 65, passed away on December 14 following a fight against complications from diabetes.

Missionary Kim, who grew up in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do, was ordained in 1983. He was dispatched in 1988 to the Philippines. Together with his wife Song Jae-eun (60), a former elementary school teacher, Kim established 12 churches in the Lawak area of Manila, Philippines, over a period of 14 years, while assisting the poor and saving souls. Exposed to harsh conditions at his sites of ministry, he was forced to return to Korea in 2002 when his diabetes worsened. For the next 12 years, he fought the illness, visiting hospitals in Seoul and various provinces.

Calling hours were held at Shinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul (photo), and his funeral was held on December 17.
