2014-12-18 17:41

Habitat for Humanity Korea held a worship service commemorating its 20th anniversary on December 16, at Jangchung Church in Jung-gu, Seoul. A series of commemorative events including supporters’ night and construction of a volunteers’ center are to follow. In his commemorative note, Habitat Korea Board Chair Jeong Geun-mo (far right in photo) said, “Habitat is not just about building houses. It is a movement giving life to homes and communities through the houses… We’ll deliver more hope to many places around the world.”

Habitat for Humanity International was established in 1976 in the United States, to build “A world with comfortable houses for all.” Habitat Korea, founded in 1994, helped to improve the living conditions of 4,000 households in Korea and 11,000 overseas by building or repairing houses, and through financial aid. During the next 10 years, Habitat Korea plans to build eco-friendly and energy-saving houses, carry out research on social rental housing, hold housing welfare seminars, and diversify fundraising strategies.
