2014 Korean Church Top 10 News ⑥ Korean Christians Victimized in Egypt by Terrorist Bombing

2014-12-29 10:37
Back in February, a bus full of Korean Christians on a Holy Land pilgrimage was hit by a terrorist suicide bombing, an incident that shocked Korean church circles and Korean society as a whole. At the time, Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula was designated as a third-degree (“limited travel”) warning region, but the pilgrims were not aware of this.

The Egyptian government defined the incident as a terrorist suicide bombing, and the Islamic extremist group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis announced that they had committed the attack.

While condemning the extremists’ terrorist attack against civilians, the Korean churches joined in efforts to deal with the aftermath, by helping the bereaved families and seeking ways to publicly recognize the two persons who sacrificed their lives to save the others.

Subsequently, the Korean churches have acted out of a heightened awareness of the dangers entailed in travel to conflict areas, such as Holy Land pilgrimages or overseas missions.
