“Please pray for Rev. Lim like this: May he carry out the role of a light in a dark land, may he pray with tears for his life, and embrace the souls in that land….”

Ms. Lim Geum-young, wife of Rev. Lim Hyeon-soo of Light Korean Presbyterian Church in Toronto, Canada, posted on the church website a letter to the church members, requesting prayers for Rev. Lim (61, photo) who has been detained for over a year now. She wrote, “One early morning after Rev. Lim was detained, I heard the Lord telling me, ‘I have sent your husband to North Korea. I’m with him.’ I was so thankful that I cried and cried. Then God gave me a thankful heart…. When Rev. Lim was sentenced to prison for life, I was relieved, thinking, ‘The Lord saved him again.’ There must be a grain of wheat for the souls in that land, and I think my husband is it.”

On February 17, 300 members of the Light Church and 50 member pastors of Eastern Presbytery and Church Council held a prayer gathering titled “Day of Rev. Lim Hyeon-soo,” in front of Canadian Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Afterwards they had meetings with Rona Ambrose, the Conservative leader, and officers of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Rev. Noh Hi-song of Light Church and President Lee Gi-seok of Toronto Korean Association requested the Canadian government to dispatch an envoy to North Korea and to make a contact channel for Lim’s family.

Rev. Noh explained in the church bulletin, “The reason we set the prayer meeting for the 17th is because Rev. Lim’s birthday is the day before. We miss Rev. Lim very much, but he has spent his 60th and 61st birthdays in North Korea. We pray that God’s great solace and grace be with him.”
