CCK, CCIK and CDH Announce “Declaration for Korean Church Unity”

2016-09-06 10:27

Representatives of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK), the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK) and the Council of Denomination Heads for Korean Church Unity (CDH) have agreed to prepare a plan for Korean church unity by the end of this October, and to achieve unity by the end of November. For this, they have decided on the formation of a Committee to Promote Korean Church Unity, to be composed of seven members: three from CCIK, two from CCK, and one each from the Presbyterian Church of Korea Hapdong, and the Korean Methodist Church.

Representatives of the three groups held a press conference on August 31 at the Korean Ecumenical Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and announced a “Declaration for Korean Church Unity” (photo). The declaration provides for the selection of a moderator or president from among the members of the Committee, and for the organization to be finalized by the end of this month. The declaration includes plans for the formation of working-level teams to deal with the various problems that will need to be solved for unity. It also provides processes to elicit agreement in cases where Committee members hold conflicting positions.
