Caleb Mission Society Publishes Photos of Recent Flood Damage in North Korea

2016-09-29 16:58

On September 28, Caleb Mission Society (Representative: Rev. Kim Seong-eun), which supports defectors from North Korea and their resettlement in South Korea, shared photos taken in North Korea this past September 3. They show Hoeryong city, located on the Tumen River in northern Hamgyongbuk-do, North Korea, and the Namyang region of Onseong-gun, Hamgyongbuk-do, as seen from across the Tumen River in Jilin, China.

The flooding took place from August 29 to September 1, when Typhoon Lionrock brought heavy rains, resulting in a death toll of hundreds of North Koreans, and huge damage in the Northeast region including Hamgyongbuk-do.

Just a few days after this worst flood in the history of weather observation near Tumen River, however, North Korea performed its 5th nuclear test.

Rev. Kim Seong-eun of Caleb Mission Society said, “Residents who are seriously affected by the floods are escaping from North Korea… We at Caleb Mission are currently protecting some 30 of these North Korean defectors. South Korean churches and believers should come up with ways to support them at the humanitarian level.” (041-575-5301·http://calebmission.com)
