Chongshin University Board Meeting Fails to Materialize

2016-12-26 17:21

Despite high expectations for normalization after nearly two years of fruitless efforts, the Chongshin University Foundation board (acting board chair: Rev. An Myeong-hwan) fell short of a quorum on December 22, and thus was unable to hold its meeting.

Last month, the Education Ministry sent a third warning notice to the board, naming the 27th of this month as the deadline for normalization. According Article 20 of the Private School Regulations, the board was required to appoint a replacement board member and request the Education Ministry’s approval by this date.

Recently the prospects were hopeful, because the two parties in conflict within the board, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK Hapdong) and major figures at Chongshin University, reportedly were considering agreement. With the failure of the board to meet, however, reconciliation and appointment of the new board member will not take place by the deadline.
