“I’ll be the first to love my neighbors! Together with the Korean churches!”

On December 11 at the entrance to Cheonggyecheon in Jung-gu, Seoul, 22 church denominations including the Salvation Army Korea Territory (Kim Pil-soo, territorial commander), Kukmin Daily, and Christian Broadcasting System (CBS) jointly announced the “I’ll be the first to love my neighbors” campaign. In the wintry -6 degrees Celsius weather, Commissioner Kim Pil-soo read their statement: “Twenty-two denominations have joined in offering the public this opportunity to love our neighbors through the Salvation Army Red Kettles. We Korean churches are going outside to share the beauty of love with our marginalized neighbors living in difficult situations.”

Kukmin Daily CEO Choi Sam-gyu said, “It is God’s heart that we put into the Red Kettle. I hope that this year we will harvest good fruits enabling us to spread hope and courage among our neighbors facing hardships in the cold winter.”

Volunteers sent by the 22 church denominations to this year’s Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign take turns every day from noon to seven o’clock in the evening in front of the Methodist Church Headquarters in Jongno-gu. The funds raised through the campaign will be used according to the decision of the denominations.
