“Let’s merge our unification mission strategies”: 1st Peace Corea Unification Colloquium

Representatives of key unification mission organizations and church-related North Korea academies have begun brainstorming on how to merge multifarious unification mission strategies.

Peace Corea Inc. (representative: Heo Mun-yeong) held its “1st Peace Corea Unification Colloquium” (photo), discussing “The Past and Future of Unification Mission Education: Directions and Methods,” at its office in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on February 19. The colloquium formed a mission unification organization tentatively named “Council for Unification Mission Education,” and made preparations to construct an integrated unification mission strategy. The 12 participants in the event came from unification mission organizations and North Korea academies, including the North Korea Mission Strategy School of Youth With a Mission Korea (YWAM), United Korea 4 the World Inc., and New Korea Vision Center.

Rev. Jo Yo-sep, principal of YWAM North Korea Mission Strategy School, spoke on “The Present Situation and Immediate Tasks of North Korea Mission Education,” pointing out that Korean church unification mission strategy has been ideologically inclined and inconsistent. “Because individual churches and unification mission organizations carry out their own particular North Korea-unification missions, their strategies are ideologically divided, ineffective, and result in excessive human and material loss,” he said. “That is because the Korean churches have prioritized the material aspect of mission,” he explained. “And this is the reason why North Korea-unification mission organizations should form a council, unify their North Korean academic curriculum, and organize their unification mission strategy and education systematically.”

On this day the participants narrowed their opinion gaps through discussions as to the council’s identity and its mode of operation, and on possible directions and financial resources for unification mission education. The council is planning further meetings to devise plans for effective North Korean reconstruction and evangelization.
