“Isn’t Genesis myth?” “Can creation theory, evolution theory and Big Bang theory be compatible?” These are natural questions for young Christians to ask, as they hear creation theory at church and learn evolution theory at school.
The Korea Association for Creation Research (KACR; president: Prof. Han Yun-bong) has just held an event for youth in their 20s and 30s, to provide answers to such puzzling questions. This was a camp held by KACR for university students and other young people on February 23~24 at Hannam University, located on Hannam-ro in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon. Titled “Only Through the Bible,” it was the first such camp.
KACR president Han Yun-bong (speaker in photo) said in his lecture titled “Genesis Is Fact,” “Genesis is a historical record of the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel and facts about the patriarchal age…Common sense tells us that historical records will include many ambiguous metaphors and symbols.” He explained, “Satan’s strategy, starting with the Garden of Eden, is to cast doubt on God’s Word…If, as some insist, Genesis is not fact but myth, then it will be impossible to trust the Bible as a whole.”
In particular, Han emphasized that literal belief in the account of Genesis chapter 1, that God created heaven and earth in six days, working 24 hours a day, is the correct way to interpret it. Referring to the expression in Genesis chapter 1 verse 5 “And there was evening, and there was morning,” he cited this as proof that the Hebrews worked six days and rested on the Sabbath, in accordance with the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8~10).
He drew the line at accepting the Big Bang theory or the theory of evolution, which he said was impossible.
“The idea of the Big Bang theory, that all energy and matter in the cosmos was packed into a single point at the beginning of creation, is a physical impossibility,” he said. “The result of an explosion is always disorder, which does not develop into order after astronomically long periods.” He criticized “evolutionary creationism,” saying, “God made Creation perfectly at the start, without any evolutionary process. In Genesis chapter 1 there are about ten expressions related to God’s creation of the various types of animals and plants…Evolutionary creationism is a compromise theory that positions the Bible within evolution theory, in the belief that biological evolution is scientific fact.”
The camp was organized around lectures on topics such as “Is evolution theory scientific?” and “The true character of compromise theory,” and included a Q&A session on creation science. KACR president Han gave his diagnosis that “In the modern era, spirituality and intelligence are blurred…The purpose of this camp is to help Christian youth have faith in Biblical creation, depart from mistaken knowledge, and recover their spiritual nature and intellectual spirituality.”
