On April 29, Ansan Christian Council (ACC) set up a booth (photo) in front of the common memorial altar in Hwarang Recreation Area, to pray together with victims’ families and visitors and offer counseling. This is one of the 67 booths set up by religious and civil organizations to help the victims’ families and those coming to pay their respects. The member denominations of ACC take turns staying in the booth every day from 9 o’clock in the morning till 11 in the evening. According to ACC, 22 Danwon High School students who lost their lives and 42 students who are still missing from the Sewol Tragedy were attending 27 local churches in Ansan area.

A group of 40 persons from the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK), including Representative President Rev. Han Yeong-hun (photo) and heads and staff of member denominations, paid a visit to the memorial altar for victims of the ferry disaster. Rev. Han said, “The Korean churches should pray with one voice that God will console the hearts of those in deep sorrow, and we should provide as much support as possible.” CCIK is currently carrying out a donation drive for the victims.

Korean Diakonia (Moderator: Rev. Kim Sam-hwan), on the other hand, announced on April 29 that they will carry out a two-year care campaign for the ferry disaster victims, from this coming June to May 2016, with a budget of one million won. They plan to start recruiting and educating volunteers and professional caregivers soon.
