Plans for First Independent Korean Church Building in Arabian Peninsula

2014-09-03 17:43

On September 1, Rev. Kang Hee-jin (44) of Abu Dhabi Korean Church (Korean Methodist Church) in United Arab Emirates (UAE) said in an interview with Kukmin Daily, “We’re building the first Korean church in Abu Dhabi and it will be the only one in the Arabian Peninsula… This construction will lead us closer to diaspora mission.” The church held its ground-breaking ceremony this past July.

Currently there are 10 Korean churches in UAE and three in Abu Dhabi. These communities rent church buildings belonging to the United Kingdom or the United States, for their worship services.

Rev. Kang said, “There are many foreign churches and Christians in UAE because 90% of the UAE population is foreign. These foreigners are from 182 countries, the most diverse foreign population of any country in the world, and most of them are migrant workers. So there are great opportunities for communication of the Gospel.”
