Seven Denominations to Act Jointly Against Heretical Groups

2015-02-24 17:23

Seven Korean church denominations have decided to act jointly against heretical and pseudo religious groups, to exchange information, and to operate a common consulting lawyers system. The seven denominations are the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK Tonghap, Hapdong, Kosin, and Hapsin), the Korean Methodist Church (KMC), the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church (KEHC), and the Korea Baptist Convention.

The countermeasures committee chairs of the seven denominations held a joint meeting on February 23 at PCK Hapdong’s general assembly building on Yeongdong-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and unanimously passed a set of joint countermeasures guidelines that include the following items in detail. First, they plan to have regular meetings through which they will share news and information about heretical groups; discuss how to act against them; together create educational lecture outlines and video clips; and carry out research and surveys. In addition, the joint committee will form and operate a consulting lawyers group to deal with administrative and legal problems that arise in the course of acting against heretical and pseudo religious groups. Each denomination will also establish branch committees at each presbytery, and set up an awareness-raising week to be observed together.
