On March 7, 120 some marriage migrant women from the six countries of Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Mongolia and China were gathered with their family members at the 2nd floor restaurant of the Korea Christian Building on Daehak-no, Jongno-gu, Seoul. They were taking part in an explanatory meeting (photo) about the “Korea Christian Mission 130th Anniversary Memorial Invitational Event With 130 Parents of Multicultural Families,” to be held April 21~29 by major Korean organizations including the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK), the Council of Presbyterian Churches in Korea (CPCK), the Korean Association of Christian Communication, and Mirae (future) Ministry Forum (MMF).

Rev. Lee Dong-seok, who chairs CCIK’s multicultural mission committee, said in explaining the purpose of the event, “On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Korean Christianity, we want to re-illuminate our missions at home and abroad, while giving encouragement to the lives of migrant women in multicultural marriages.”

Following a welcoming reception on the 21st at Incheon Airport, on April 21~23 the invited family members will visit the Unification Observatory, Jeongdongjin Beach and other sights, and attend performances; and from the 23rd~28th they will visit the women migrants’ homes. For families whose parents are no longer living, the sponsors have expanded the invitation list to include brothers, sisters or others, and have received recommendations from local government multicultural centers.
