2015-11-17 17:07

Rev. Christian A. Schwarz (speaker in photo), the founder of International NCD (Natural Church Development), a trans-denominational ministry institute, explained the characteristics of a “healthy church” in his speech to the “NCD Leadership Conference, NOW!”, held at the Logos Center of Gwacheon Somang Church (Rev. Jang Hyeon-seung), on Munweon-cheonggye-gil in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, on November 16. He said that what healthy churches have in common is that they continuously raise up spiritually grounded ministers, effectively utilize the believers’ gifts (talents), and have well-rounded small-group communities. Over the past 20 some years, Rev. Schwarz has surveyed more than 70,000 churches belonging to some 100 different denominations in 86 countries, using a 120-question opinion-research form. He enumerated what he has found to be the eight characteristics of a “healthy church”: leadership that raises up ministers, ministry centered on the use of gifts, passionate spirituality, effective organization, inspiring worship, holistic small groups, evangelism based on need, and interpersonal relationships.
