Celebration of 100th “Monday Prayer Meeting for Peaceful Reunification”

On April 25, the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (Rev. Choi Bu-ok, moderator) held its 100th “Monday Prayer Meeting for Peaceful Reunification,” one of the denomination’s activities for peace and reconciliation on the Korean peninsula. To commemorate the occasion, PROK led a special worship service, “Evening of Koinonia,” together with peace activists who have participated in the prayer movement, sharing rice cakes and strengthening fellowship.

PROK’s Monday Prayer Meeting for Peaceful Reunification first started during the Lenten season, on March 10, 2014, according to the decision of the 98th General Assembly. The meetings have been organized in rotation by 25 presbyteries, 30 some agencies and organizations, and 20 some churches belonging to the PROK. In fact, there is a much bigger network of prayer participants that extends beyond the denomination to the world church, including the World Council of Churches, Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), and the United Church of Canada. On this day, too, mission co-workers from abroad who assist the PROK General Assembly office joined in the celebration and expressed their thankfulness to be journeying together toward a peaceful Korean peninsula.
