On First Day of Advent, Giant Christmas Tree Lights Up Seoul Center

“Like Jesus Christ, who came as a light for the earth, let us be lamps lighting up this dark world.”

3,000 believers expressed this resolve at the “2016 Korea Christmas Festival,” held on the evening of November 27, the first Sunday of Advent, at Seoul Plaza in front of Seoul City Hall. The event was sponsored jointly by Seoul City and CTS (Christian Television System) TV (Elder Kim Gyeong-cheol, president), and was supported by the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea ? Daeshin (Rev. Lee Jong-seung, moderator).

In accord with the “Green Christmas Campaign” being carried out by Seoul City and CTS following their recent MOU, the tree is equipped with cost-efficient LED lights that will be kept on for limited periods. Additionally, the tree is hooked up to a bicycle that produces electricity when it is pedaled, and to a solar energy generator. The Christmas tree lights will be on for 50 days, up until January 8 next year.
