Will Korean Church Unity Be Held Back by “Heretical” Counterattack?

2017-04-19 17:22
Rev. Lee Young-hoon, who has worked hard for unity between the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) and the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK), has been suspended from performance of his duties as CCK executive director. The suspension is due to a provisional disposition filed by Kim No-a (former name: Kim Pung-il), who calls himself “Bohyesa” (Holy Spirit as advocate or counselor).

On April 17, Seoul Central District Court 51st Division (presiding judge: Lee Je-jeong) announced its decision: “We have accepted Mr. Kim’s request for a provisional disposition requiring suspension of performance of duties, because there were serious defects in last January’s executive director election, leaving room for it to be viewed as invalid…Until judgment on this case is confirmed, Rev. Lee may not carry out the duties of executive director.” The court said in explanation, “Mr. Kim was clerk of session at PCK Bible Assembly Segwang Jungang Church, and on September 20 last year he appointed Kim Yeong-hwan to that post…But according to the articles of association of Segwang Jungang Church, this cannot be seen as Mr. Kim’s retirement, and it also cannot be concluded that he was ineligible for election as CCK executive director.”
