On September 10, the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK Tonghap) opened its 103rd General Assembly at Iri Shinkwang Presbyterian Church in Iksan, North Jeolla-do, with the theme “Let us be the people’s partner for spiritual revival.”

The newly appointed PCK Tonghap moderator, Rev. Lim Hyeong-seok (Pyeongchon Church in Anyang, far right), said, “In our denomination’s 103rd year, which runs until September next year, we celebrate the centennial of the Independence Manse (hurrah) Movement of 1919. At that time, 7,600 persons were shot and killed by the Japanese Empire’s bullets, 16,000 were wounded, 47,000 were arrested, and 47 churches were burnt down. Ever since the March First Movement, the Korean church has been a nation-loving, praying church; praying for our faith and our nation every day at dawn.” Rev. Lim also emphasized that the Manse Movement of the Korean church was deeply rooted in the spiritual awakening of the Pyongyang Great Revival of 1907.

On this day there was also a clash in front of Iri Shinkwang Church between demonstrators speaking for and against Myungsung Church.
