The Social Welfare Foundation Table Community and Yeontan (coal briquet) Bank (Representative: Rev. Heo Gi-bok) announced its 2014 project plans on January 8, and said that it would carry out a “Send 4 Million Coal Briquets” campaign this year. The 2014 goal is 1 million coal briquets more than last year’s. Rev. Heo explained, “Our society has become so polarized that we now have 150,000 energy-deprived households. We increased our goal for this year to get closer to our less-privileged neighbors.”

In addition, Table Community has decided to survey the situation of household coal briquet consumption in 16 cities and provinces in the nation, while carrying out a campaign urging “No to a Government Price Raise of Coal Briquets.” They are also planning to build a new Coal Briquet Bank in Pohang, which is their 32nd branch. As an overseas project, they are assisting Kyrgyzstan in central Asia with 150,000 coal briquets, and will operate a scholarship project as well.

Since its establishment in 1998, Table Community has supported some 220,000 households with 30 million coal briquets and provided free meals to approximately 860,000 people.
