People Sharing Lives (Board Chair: Rev. Im Seok-gu) announced on June 10 that Mr. Hun Vutheany (45·photo) has recovered his vision after a corneal transplant operation performed recently at Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital in Gangweondo. Anyang Methodist Church (Rev. Im Yong-taek) sponsored the full cost of the operation.

Mr. Vutheany’s left eye was injured in a rock fall 36 years ago. Soon he lost his vision, and from then on was suffering from continuous pain. As the head of his family, however, he could not stop working. He grows rice, sugar cane and corn, earning approximately 50,000 won (approx. $50) per month to support his five family members.

When the Hospital's medical mission team visited Cambodia, they diagnosed Mr. Vutheany’s condition as requiring urgent attention. Because of the poor local medical conditions and his economic situation, however, it was difficult for him to have an operation immediately. Upon learning of his situation, People Sharing Lives contacted Anyang Methodist Church so that Mr. Vutheany could receive the operation in Korea. Mr. Vutheany said, “I thank everyone who loved me so much that I could receive a cornea transplant and now am able to see.”

People Sharing Lives, an official organ donation registry organization of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, carries out a cornea and organ donation pledge campaign together with the Korean churches. (1588-0692).
