8,000 Christian College Students Gather and Sing Praise Songs

Due to the peripheral effects of Typhoon Goni, it was pouring at Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, on August 25. The hard rain, however, did not stop 8,000 some college students, dressed in raincoats (photo), from singing songs of praise. The members of “Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) Korea” were gathered from all around the country for their annual summer training camp.

CCC Korea, established in 1958 by the late Rev. Kim Jun-gon, is the largest college mission organization in Korea. Since its start in 1977, the summer camp has been at the center of CCC Korea’s student mission. CCC members have prayed in tears and renewed their devotion at the camp each summer. Rev. Kim’s famous “100 questions and 1 answer” is always a feature of the summer camp: “Who is the true hope of humankind?” “Jesus Christ!” “How can we save the campuses and this people?” “Jesus Christ!”

Each summer camp also includes a “New Friends Group.” CCC members invite to the camp some 500 fellow students who do not know about Jesus, and share with them the meaning of salvation and life, so that they may accept Jesus as the Lord of their life.

Jeong Hui-su (39), one of the CCC leaders, said, “Participants from 40 branches of the country have gathered here and are experiencing the love and grace of Christ on the Cross. God’s actions are taking place: Students who didn’t know about Jesus are accepting Jesus here.”

The camp was originally scheduled to open in June, but was postponed for about two months due to the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The camp continues until August 28.
