Feel God’s Heart As You Color Bible Stories: Jeong Hyung-gi Publishes “Coloring Bible”

“What color is your soul today? Hasn’t it turned black and white from your anxiety and worries?”

With this question, artist Jeong Hyung-gi (58) invites us into his newly published “Coloring Bible” (Publisher: Hongsungsa), through which readers can enjoy healing hours through the Word. The three-volume coloring book is designed for readers to fill in, with their colors of preference, the outlines of lambs in a field, a crowd of people packed onto the page, mountains and oceans of various forms, and other Bible story scenes.

Organized according to the Bible narrative, the drawings in the first volume, “After the Creation,” start from the Garden of Eden and continue through the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the scene of Joseph becoming the ruler of Egypt, and Jacob’s funeral. The second volume, “The Time of Jesus,” contains the news about Jesus’ birth, and leads on through his life until he is sentenced to death in Jerusalem, and dies on the Cross. In the last volume, “The Remaining Ones,” artist Jeong has realistically depicted ten scenes of Jesus’ disciples after the Lord’s resurrection and ascension. As readers follow the Bible stories and fill in the black-and-white drawings with their own colors, they can meditate on the heart of God, who created this world and cares for all parts of it with devotion.

Since 2014, artist Jeong has been illustrating Kukmin Daily’s series “Korean Churches in Castle Village.”
