The Korea Baptist Convention (Ahn Hui-mok, moderator) opened its 108th General Assembly on September 17 at Hwabaek International Convention Center in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk-do, focusing on the theme “Together to the New Future.” New Moderator Park Jong-cheol (57) of Jeonju Saesomang Church was elected on his third run for the post. In the election at the assembly venue on the 18th, Rev. Park received 904 of the total 1,707 votes, defeating Rev. Ko Myeong-jin of Suwon Central Baptist Church, who received 791 votes. On this day, the assembly delegates heard an explanation by Gil Won-pyeong, who chairs the steering committee of the Citizens’ Coalition Against Homosexuality and Same-Sex Marriage, about the toxic provisions in the National Action Plan on human rights policy (NAP).
