Pastor Christoph Wonneberger (71·center in photo) will visit Korea for the first time on March 26. He was part of the Monday Demonstrations (prayers for peace) at St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig, former East Germany, which ignited German reunification.

Pastor Wonneberger will participate in the Peace Korea International Symposium, the opening ceremony of the “2015 Seoul-Pyongyang International Peace Conference” (July 27-30). He will make a presentation titled “German reunification and role of the church.” During his sojourn in Korea, he will join and deliver sermons at various gatherings including an early morning prayer meeting with leaders of Korean church circles and reunification-related organizations, seminaries, a Sunday service, and the Korean Church Prayer Meeting for Peaceful Reunification.

Prof. Kim Seong-yeong of Baekseok University, chair of the preparation committee for the 2015 Seoul-Pyongyang International Peace Conference, explained, “Due to persecution by the East German secret police, he still suffers from heart disease, and at first he hesitated to come to this event. But he decided to share with the Korean church his passion and experience of helping bring about the peaceful reunification of Germany.”

Organized by the Korean Informational Association, the 2015 Seoul-Pyongyang International Peace Conference will be held this coming July in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Korean independence. The Conference will discuss peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula, and will invite Mikhail Gorbachev, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union; Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States; Tomiichi Murayama, former Prime Minister of Japan, and others. It plans to hold part of the Conference in Pyongyang, North Korea, on July 30. (02-3676-2007)
