The 8th Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP), held at the Songdo Convencia on Centralro in Yeonsugu, Incheon, closed on August 28. The 450 participants adopted an “Incheon Declaration,” based on the results of discussions by three commissions (Peace Education and Reconciliation, Human Rights and Wellbeing, and Development and Environment). The Declaration expresses the participants’ resolve to do their best to promote human rights in Asia and to bring about the well-being of the human race. For this purpose, ACRP members agreed to work hard on peace and human rights education, to endeavor to legislate laws to reduce discrimination and slander, to campaign for tree planting and for protection of children from labor and trafficking, etc. Those who attended the special workshop “Reconciliation in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia” produced a separate declaration with several recommendations. The declaration called on South and North Korea to resume dialogue with no preconditions, to stop immediately their military competition, and to respect one another’s diversity and worth as humans.
