“It’s so good to see you, my daughter! Thank you, Korean church!”

Early in the morning on April 21, President Yang Byeong-hui (photo, far right) of the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK) welcomes the guests of the day’s event: immigrant Asian women who have married Korean men, their multicultural families, and their parents, who have just arrived from the women’s home countries. This gathering officially opened the “Invitational Event With Parents of Multicultural Families on the 130th Anniversary of Korean Christian Mission.”

During the parents’ sojourn in Korea, the group will enjoy a sightseeing tour until April 23, and then stay in the homes of their daughters’ families, until the farewell ceremony on April 29 at Yoido Full Gospel Church.

This is said to be the first time that a non-governmental, non-profit, religious group has organized a large-scale reunion event for multicultural families. Rev. Shin Gwang-su (CCIK, Director of the Society and Culture Division) said, “We hope this event will give encouragement to our marginalized neighbors and improve the social image of the Korean church.”
