“The message I would like to deliver to Koreans is peace. A war doesn’t bring peace. We don’t need nuclear weapons. The Korean peninsula has to be reunited. It has to become one.”

At a press meeting on October 1, at a restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, Bishop Dr. Munib Younan (65·photo), President of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), said, “Peace is the greatest concern of the world Lutheran church.” He said, “When I heard that many Korean family members have been separated between South and North for 70 years, it brought tears to my eyes. I felt as if my heart was being ripped... The vocation of the church is to help all lives in the world to stay in peace.”

Invited by the Lutheran Church in Korea, Younan is the first LWF President to visit Korea. He said, “Currently LWF is very much interested in the issue of refugees… Every country in the world should feel responsibility for refugees and the issues related to them, and be proactive in taking care of them.”

President Younan arrived on this day and will stay in Korea for six days.
