Rev. Kim Seong-eun, representative of Caleb Mission Society, said, “According to reports from the area, the population of Hoeryong city is 130,000, and Kim Jung-un dispatched 130,000 Korean People’s Army troops there…Ordinary armies protect their nation, but the special feature of North Korea’s army is that they are often assigned to construction projects.” In particular, he said, “After President Park Geun-hye’s recent speech inviting North Korean residents and soldiers to come to South Korea any time, orders came down to strengthen the border defense, to block possible defections by Northern residents.” A church source well versed on North Korea said, “I’m worried about the reconstructed buildings; they are going up in less than a month, and the shoddy construction may result in their collapse.”
Caleb Mission Society Representative Kim Seong-eun said, “I hope the Korean churches and believers will respond with their concern, prayers and humanitarian support.”
