On June 2 the Military Evangelical Association of Korea (board chair: Rev. Gwak Seon-hui) conducted its 527th on-base baptism, at Yeonmudae Soldiers’ Church (Rev. Kim Taek-jo), located at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong-do. More than 5,000 new soldiers were baptized at the service (photo), which was carried out with the support of Sae Eden Church (Rev. So Gang-seok).
“There are many religions in the world, but Jesus Christ is the only one who gives us the solution to the problems of sin and death,” said Rev. So Gang-seok. “When you have a Biblical worldview, your life becomes more beautiful, and you can enjoy eternal life in heaven.”
Ordinarily the minister of the supporting church has given the sermon, but at the baptism service on this day, the preacher was former military chaplain Rev. Jeong Myeong-ho (Seoul Hyesung Church). Rev. So had specially requested this of Rev. Jeong, who understands the minds of young-generation soldier trainees and communicates well with them.
“When you cling to God in your living, God’s grace is added to your inner abilities and you can live an amazing life,” Rev. Jeong said. “No person can become our consolation. The Lord, who leads us, is our eternal protector.”
Sae Eden Church had prepared “comfort articles” for the soldiers: Bibles, cross necklaces, books on faith, daily necessities, snacks, etc. To celebrate the new baptisms, the church also arranged for a food truck to come on base and bake 1,500 some pizzas, treating the soldiers to an unusual scene along with the pizza treat.
